Upon retiring from a career in college education, I approached my retirement with cautious optimism in regard to my future and my service to God. God had blessed me throughout my 36 year-long career as a college instructor, guidance counselor, and college administrator, and I now was convinced that He had further plans for me in my senior years.
After much prayer and in unity with my wife, I began to seek out seminaries that provided doctoral programs in Biblical Counseling. I discovered Trinity Seminary through their website. I was impressed with the promptness of their response to my inquiry and to the wise counsel that they provided in their website evaluation. I also received a packet in the mail thoroughly explaining what Trinity had to offer me in doctoral programs.
I was pleasantly surprised one evening to receive a personal call from Dr. J. Robert Shigley of Trinity and this courtesy call was most impressive. Dr. Shigley answered numerous questions and gave me information over the phone on school costs and scholarships. Later, a Trinity academic counselor followed up with in-depth information presenting a recommended schedule and a complete cost analysis of my educational plan. I discovered that the seminary costs were very reasonable and the scholarship that was offered was extremely generous. My respect for Trinity Seminary continued to grow as I continued to build my relationship with them.
It has now been several years since Dr. Shigley called me and gave me that initial encouragement. I am well along my educational path in the Biblical Counseling program. Dr. Forrey has been my program advisor and Angela McChesney has been my academic advisor. They both have been excellent advisors/counselors and I give them much credit for my success. I also have received much assistance and encouragement from Nathan Kiegel, Retention and Progression Specialist.
As a 63 year-old student, I don't feel one bit limited by being an older student. The self-paced, independent-study format is just perfect for me. However, I do recommend the Seminar format for most courses. The seminars give the student ample opportunity to interact with Trinity instructors and staff. I also have found Trinity to be very "user-friendly" for the older student. As a former college administrator, I insisted that my staff be student-oriented and friendly. I find Trinity's entire staff to be not only friendly, but also spiritually alive and concerned about me as a Christian brother. In my situation, Trinity's educational environment has been warm, spiritually inviting, and welcoming. The coursework is practical, of high quality, and challenging. It truly is fun being a student at Trinity!
My gratitude goes to Trinity Seminary, but my praise goes to the Lord. He led me to Trinity and sustains me as I continue through my challenging program. I am excited about the doors that will now be open as I complete my doctoral program. Alice and I anticipate an adventure ahead as we seek the Lord's will in regard to future ministry opportunities.
May God continue to bless Trinity as this special college/seminary fulfills its mission!
With Much Appreciation,
Lynn Reichert
