Tutorial to search or purchase Dissertations on Navigating UMI.com

To Search Digital Dissertations:

1. Type http://www.UMI.com in the address bar on Internet Browser. Strike the ‘Enter’ key.
2. Click on the ‘Dissertation Services’ line on the left side of the screen.
3. Screen Down and Click on ‘Researchers’ and then click on ‘ProQuest dissertation & Theses’.
4. Screen down a little bit and click on the ‘Enter’ Button and
click the ‘Continue’ button.
5. Type in the author, subject, title, etc. in the boxes and change the kind of search to Author, Subject, etc.. And click ‘search’ .
The records will come up and you can click on the: 24 page preview, the abstract, or purchase the digital dissertation.

To Purchase Other Dissertations:

1. Type http://www.UMI.com in the address bar on Internet Browser and
strike the ‘Enter’ key.
2. Then click on the ‘Dissertation Services’ line on the left side of the screen.
3. Screen Down and Click on ‘Dissertation Express’
4. Screen down and click ‘Connect to Dissertation Express as an Individual’ then click the ‘Continue’ button.
(You will not actually have to purchase the dissertation you search for. All you will have to do is stop the process before entering in any credit card info.)
5. Click the ‘Continue’ button on the New Order Scene.
6. Type in the author or title of the dissertation needed.
Example: Type in “Williams” into the Author box and Strike the enter Key on your keyboard.
Several records will come up. These dissertations can not be viewed, but they can be purchased.
