Ph.D. Degree – Focus in Christian Counseling

The specialization in the Ph.D. degree is the focused area of study designed to prepare a student for a specific career path or professional goal. Courses in the major define the subject areas of expertise being developed by the student. All courses in the focus areas are 3 semester credit hours each.


Focus Core Studies – 21 credits1

  • CC 701 Theories and Modalities Impacting the Christian Counselor
  • CC 702 Contemporary Counseling Techniques for the Christian Counselor
  • BS 718 Contemporary Biblical Hermeneutics
  • CC 703 Advanced Assessment Skills and Treatment Planning
    for the Christian Counselor
  • CC 704 Issues in Marriage Counseling for the Christian Counselor
  • CC 705 Studies in Ethics for the Christian Counselor
  • Elective: Any 1 course in any area

Program Structure

  • RW 001 Trinity Tutorial
  • Focus Core – 21 credits
  • Research Methods Course – 3 credits Choose course depending on the nature of anticipated research dissertation:

    • RW 810 Bibliographic Research Methods or
    • RW 710 Empirical Research Method

  • RW 756 Dissertation – 12 credits
