Purpose: To develop in learners foundational knowledge and analytical skills within a Christian worldview that will equip them for ministry and community service.

Learning Competencies:

General B.A. Information
Prerequisite: High School Diploma or its equivalent.
Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not earned a degree
from an appropriately accredited institution where English is the principal language of
instruction must receive a minimum score of 500 on the paper-based Test of English as
a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or 61 on the Internet based TOEFL, or its equivalent.

Total Credits Required = 120. A minimum of 30 credits must be earned at Trinity
consisting of 15 Bible Core credits and 15 Major Core credits. All courses are 3
semester credit hours unless noted otherwise. A maximum of 90 credits may be
satisfied via transfer credits or a combination of transfer credit and Undergraduate
Portfolio or Credits by Examination. However, the combined credits for Undergraduate
Portfolio or Credits by Examination cannot exceed 30 credits. Courses may be taken in
any order unless otherwise specified.

 

Major in Bible and Theology

Purpose: To develop in learners skills (1) in critical, discerning thought in the
interpretation of biblical and other Christian texts and sources, (2) in the training of
others to do the same, and (3) in making appropriate application of truths learned to life
and service.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners will develop the basic skills of observation, interpretation, and application in the study of the Bible.
  2. Learners will identify and explain the significance of themes, events, and
    personalities found in the Old and New Testaments.
  3. Learners will identify and describe pertinent background, interpretive questions, and related information pertaining to books found in the Old and New Testaments.
  4. Learners will apply appropriately to life and service the biblical teachings and
    principles learned in the course of study.
  5. Learners will develop critical evaluative skills in interpreting Christian literature and an ability to communicate these skills to others.

Major in Biblical Counseling

Purpose: To acquaint learners with an overview of Biblical Studies oriented toward
helping fellow Christians respond to trials for God’s glory so that they can grow through
the experiences and be agents of change in the local church or other Christian
institutions.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners will identify the main themes of redemptive history running throughout the Scriptures, culminating in the ministry of Jesus Christ, and relate them to the
    practice of counseling.
  2. Learners will describe how glorifying God and serving His purposes distinguishes
    Biblical Counseling from other models of counseling.
  3. Learners will explain the fundamental role of counseling in the local church.
  4. Learners will develop the skills needed for effectively working with people in distress.
  5. Learners will describe the contributions of important psychologists whose views
    have shaped American culture.

2 Learners may replace course with an elective in Biblical Counseling (BC) or Conflict Management (CM).

Biblical Counseling students will take BC 991 Biblical Counseling Pre-Program Assessment after completing RW 001 Trinity Tutorial and prior to beginning other course work. Students will also take BC 992 Biblical Counseling Post-Program Assessment after completing all course work and prior to beginning RW 991 Mission Outcomes Assessment. These are non-graded, non-credit assessments.

* Learners wishing to receive the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors (NANC) certification must pass the NANC exams before taking BC 305 Supervised Counseling Experience. See their website: www.nanc.org.

 

Major in Christian Management and Leadership

Purpose: To build leadership competencies to be used in discipling, equipping, and
team building ministries and to acquire the ability to: understand, plan, organize, and
administrate a church or para-church organization; facilitate small group development
and multiplication; and apply team ministry skills in a variety of multiple staff contexts.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners will examine and assess the historical and theological development of
    Christian Management and Leadership theory in a contemporary context.
  2. Learners will identify and evaluate the essential principles, practices, and
    procedures of Christian Management and Leadership theory with the goal of
    practical applications.
  3. Learners will critically analyze practical management scenarios in order to design
    constructive solutions to the issues/problems involved.
  4. Learners will develop and apply interpersonal skills in conflict management and
    dealing with difficult people.
  5. Learners will determine best practices for producing positive change in an
    organizational setting.

Purpose: To engage learners in an interdisciplinary study of women’s issues from a

and economic contexts in which Christian women have ministered; and to create new
ways of viewing, examining, and understanding the world in which learners live and
work.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners will study Christ-like models for women’s ministry so that students can
    identify and describe them.
  2. Learners will interpret and apply Christ-like models for women’s ministry.
  3. Learners will acquire the practical ministry skills required for positions of women’s
    ministry within a church or para-church setting.

Purpose: To equip persons for service in leadership and discipleship related ministries
in the local church or Christian non-profit organization through basic training in the Word of God and contemporary strategies for educational ministries.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners will articulate a biblically-based Christian worldview of basic leadership and discipleship principles and practices through informed perspectives expressed in academic activities in administration, teaching, spiritual growth, and small groups.
  2. Learners will identify best practices that contribute to personal growth and spiritual formation through self-assessment and peer-evaluation academic activities.
  3. Learners will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the basic principles and practices of leadership and discipleship through critical reflection of scholarly resources and contemporary writings.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners will identify and discuss leadership and management essentials in guiding and growing youth ministry in the church.
  2. Learners will explore leadership and ministry issues related to other ministry
    programs in the church.
  3. Learners will describe and discuss needs of youth and the church to inform their
    leadership and ministry practice.
  4. Learners will specify and support a biblical and sound theology of youth ministry.
